Lykins Named Key Distributor of BlueDEF Diesel Exhaust Fluid
Lykins Companies has been named the key distributor of BlueDEF Diesel Exhaust Fluid for Ohio, Kentucky, Indiana and West Virginia. Lykins has had a commitment to selling environmentally friendly products for many years and the addition of BlueDEF to its product offerings further enhances that commitment.
The Environmental Protection Agency has mandated the reduction of NOx emissions by the end of 2010. To reduce these emissions, most new over the road vehicles will be equipped with a Selective Catalytic Reduction (SCR) system. The SCR technology requires the use of diesel exhaust fluid (DEF).
The benefits of BlueDEF include it’s cleaner and better for the environment, improves fuel economy, and ultimately reduces overall operating costs for companies with diesel truck fleets.
Lykins offers BlueDEF directly to its customers and through Lykins’ distributors in a variety of container sizes.
BlueDEF is the mixture of high purity synthetic urea and deionized water that is used in SCR systems on diesel engines. BlueDEF is injected into the exhaust stream via a controlled dosing module where the water vaporizes leaving ammonia molecules free to travel into the catalytic converter where it reacts and neutralizes the NOx molecules, converting it to nitrogen and water.

Lykins also supplies other environmentally friendly products, including Bio Heat and E-85. Lykins was the first company in the area to provide BioHeat, an environmentally friendly home heating oil, and E-85, the environmentally friendly motor fuel which is a blend of 85 percent ethanol and just 15 percent gasoline. Ethanol is derived from crops, mainly corn in the Midwest.
